Chuck Anderson is a senior director of development and strategy at the Urban Institute, where he builds and strengthens partnerships with private foundations, corporations, and individual donors.

A former journalist, Anderson has more than 20 years of experience guiding nonprofit organizations to successful outcomes with their institutional and individual fundraising. This includes a multiyear initiative to diversify funding for research and policy development at the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program, where he worked closely with scholars focused on issues ranging from housing and infrastructure to urban poverty, immigration, and the economic competitiveness of metropolitan areas. Before joining Urban, Anderson spent three years supporting the UN Refugee Agency’s global relief efforts, with an emphasis on bolstering private-sector support for those displaced by prolonged conflict in Syria.

Anderson also has extensive experience with conservation and land use issues, having led corporate and foundation fundraising at the National Parks Conservation Association and Land Trust Alliance. His prior assignments also included various communications and development roles at The Nature Conservancy, including assistant director for individual giving. Anderson holds a BA in history from Yale University.
