On November 20th, the Urban Institute and CoreLogic hosted the third annual Data, Demand, and Demographics Housing Symposium. The day-long symposium explored several housing policy issues, including the impact of demographic change on multifamily and single family market growth, household financial wellness, housing affordability and urbanization, and single family mortgage financing and credit accessibility. We also explored the following questions:
- How will the preferences of different population cohorts affect the future of housing demand?
- What effects will high rental cost-burdens have on future wealth, financial wellness, and tenure decisions?
- What impediments continue to limit credit accessibility in mortgage financing?
- How attainable are legislative changes impacting the housing and financial services industry in the final year of the 114th Congress?
Jason Furman, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, delivered the opening keynote address, outlining the Obama administration’s ongoing effort to expand access to mortgage credit in light of changing demographics and housing policy priorities.
Speakers included:
- Frank Nothaft, chief economist, CoreLogic
- Sarah Rosen Wartell, president, Urban Institute
- John Dalton, president, Housing Policy Council
- Tim Pawlenty, president and CEO, Financial Services Roundtable
-
Dave Stevens, president and CEO, Mortgage Bankers Association
