Data, Demand, and Demographics: A Symposium on Housing Finance
Body

On November 5th, the Urban Institute and CoreLogic hosted the second annual Data, Demand, and Demographics Symposium in Washington, DC. The Symposium began with a post-election discussion among former U.S. Representative Rick Lazio (NY), former director, White House National Economic Council, Gene Sperling and Urban Institute President, Sarah Rosen Wartell.

The program included expert panels and featured speakers, including former director, FHFA, Ed DeMarco and the CEO of Quicken Loans, Bill Emerson who focused on how housing finance can successfully meet the challenges ahead. Topics included:

  • What do the country's changing demographics mean for housing demand and tenure choice?
  • How can we better meet the increasing need for rental housing?
  • Government-sponsored enterprises reform: what can be done without legislation?
  • What's in store for single family financing?

The Data, Demand, and Demographics Symposium, the day after Election Day, was the first event to reflect on the mid-term elections’ impact on housing finance. It was an exciting and robust discussion about the nation’s most pressing housing and housing finance challenges.
